Mission Statement
Good Neighbors is an association of residents, agencies, companies and individuals living and/or working on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island. As individuals and neighborhoods, we are dedicated to improving our personal and communal lives. We do this by providing information, advocacy, events and activities which promote safety, emergency preparedness, and social networking to assist in building relationships across populations on the islands.
We value respect, tolerance, working toward the public good, individual initiative, and are supportive towards the common goals of the community. We encourage the empowerment of individuals who care about the community and strive to act collectively towards the greater good.
Quality of Life
Regardless of whether you are a short term renter, a program member, an agency or company providing services or someone who wants to stay a part of TI/YBI after the redevelopment, we all have a stake in making the islands a better place to live now.
Do you have concerns about crime, property management, services, or neighbors? Good Neighbors will seek to find positive ways to resolve issues and improve our lives on the Islands. We do this first by getting to know each other, canvassing our neighborhoods, distributing information that is important to an area, hosting small, informal get-togethers, and working with various agencies and groups.
As citizens of San Francisco we want to be sure that our unique needs are taken into consideration when making changes that affect our lives. We want to collaborate with the organizations and agencies that provide services to find creative solutions we can all agree to and live with.
A Unique challenge
If you live on Treasure Island/YBI, you are keenly aware that the islands are more like a bedroom community than a fully integrated part of the city. The population has a high turnover rate and there has not been, so far, a lot of opportunity to develop a sense of community. Against the backdrop of inevitable redevelopment we find ourselves in a sort of limbo.
